Monument of Triumph | Director Return

Destiny’s Director has always been more than a navigation screen. It’s the place where players see the world laid out in front of them and decide where their next journey begins.

With the shift to Portal, some of that sense of place had been lost. I redesigned the Director to bring every destination back into one cohesive view, combining the clarity of Portal with the fantasy and world-building players expected from Destiny.

Final Design

Destination Refresh

For Destiny 2’s final Director update, we wanted to give the screen a full polish pass. Over time, each planet node had been created individually, resulting in beautiful work but inconsistent styles. I refreshed the full set of nodes to bring the screen together and establish a more consistent visual standard for how destinations are rendered.

Tooltip Refresh

I refreshed the tooltip system after years of small inconsistencies had built up across spacing, typography, and alignment. By auditing the different use cases and bringing them back in line with our UI standards, I made the system feel cleaner, more consistent, and easier to maintain.

Destination Banner

Building on the tooltip cleanup, I explored ways to make them feel more connected to the world of Destiny. I mocked up versions that added key art banners to the top of each tooltip, giving players a stronger visual link between the tooltip and the destination it referenced.

Bungie Coworkers

I want to shout out all my Bungie coworkers. There’s too many to list, but I’ve always known my contributions would have been insignificant without your help. Thank you for your willingness, hard work, and laughs along the way.
