Armor 2.0
Armor 2.0 was a complete overhaul of Destiny 2’s armor perk system, replacing fixed perk rolls with a more flexible mod-based framework for deeper player customization and buildcrafting.
As the visual designer on the feature, I helped organize a dense set of perks, energy costs, mod sockets, energy stats, and customization options into a screen that was quickly understandable and easy to scan. The work required careful information hierarchy, layout efficiency, and visual clarity to make a significantly more complex system feel approachable within limited screen space.
Energy Meter States
The Armor 2.0 energy meter had to support a wide range of states, including unused energy, socketed mods, over-budget mods, upgrade previews, and masterworked armor. The design needed to scale across energy types, armor slots, and stat changes while keeping dense buildcrafting information clear and immediately readable.
Pre-Vis Motion Mockup
Before implementation began on Armor 2.0, I created a full motion design mockup to define the screen flow, interaction states, and overall feel of the new armor customization experience.
Built in After Effects over a clean capture of the character armor preview, the mockup helped the team align on what we were making before production work began. It made the feature easier to evaluate early, exposed potential usability issues, and gave designers, engineers, and stakeholders a clear reference for how the final interface should behave.
Armor 2.0 Reveal Stream
Bungie revealed Armor 2.0 during a dedicated livestream ahead of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, giving players an in-depth look at the new armor customization system. The stream showed how armor stats, energy types, mod sockets, costs, Artifacts, and Universal Ornaments would work together to give players more control over their builds.
Bungie Coworkers
I want to shout out to my all my Bungie coworkers. There’s too many to list, but I’ve always known my contributions would have been insignificant without your help. Thank you for your willingness, hard work, and laughs along the way.
